Leakster & Foxtrot

Updated: More stuff at in red from the leaker who will be named Foxtrot.
oh btw those screen shots are awesome and you cant see them hahahahaha
My Precious...dont touch my precious

Hey been testing the game for awhile i got in through Clan beta. I just wanted to comment on the negative comment. I tottaly disagree with alot he says. The game is acutally very well done and just a little low population on alot of stuff but i will have to say that it is a really good game at the state it is in. The only thing is the grind is really bad right now and hopfully they fix it a tad bit. I don't have much info to leak because havnt experniced much yet. Here are some screenshots to prove that I am in.

He has said that i could ask him some questions...so leave your questions in comments and I will pick the best 5 or so.

Please use the name: Leakster when posting my comments, also please don't distribute my screenshot, it is just for you to validate my comments authenticity.

I would like to share my comments about the game.

Summary:

While the mob density is very low, the game is fun when you find a mob to attack. Other than that I have only ran into one person during testing. Obviously tons of stuff is turned off. There is only one track of music that plays in a continous loop over and over as you traverse the landscape. It is true that the landscape isn't boring, it is extremely varied, I would like to not that I only found one mountain that I couldn't climb and it was a sheer rock face, everything else is able to be traversed as far as i can tell so far. There are all kinds of different tree's about, some tree's you can climb, they like branch out and their limbs touch the ground, they make good hidding spots for bow attacks on enemies. The combat is hack and slash to me, off course skills do make some difference in damage, and using stuff like shields and blocking reduce damage. While I have read others say you can't block with a 2 hander you can, you just hold the weapon up vertically to block incoming attacks. I have seen several types of mobs in the game besides goblins, the mobs spawns take som walking to find though. The day/night is done very well, with the shadows working as expected. I think more itemization needs to be done, I was hoping for tons of items. As far as crafting goes there was maybe 15 swords you could make, but that was just one handers. I am sure there are more, maybe some haven't made into game yet. I was hoping for a great selection though. It costs money and resources to craft, if mess up your money and resources are gone. You do not know the stats of the item until after you have made it. I made a goblin axe, the crafted version had the same stats as the one i could get off a goblin, I thought the stats on a crafted one might be better. The NPC's in town are like mummies that just stand there and do nothing, no voice overs just text.

Right now the quest system must not be in, while there are some chain quests to be found near towns, the NPCs I have encountered in town only had a couple of quests, as I did those and came back no other one's existed. The game world is huge like everyone says, while I never tested the time moving from the west coast to east coast. It took me 1 hour to move from a starter town in the south to one in the north. That is just running and then doing a little walking, if combat occurs in between expect more time. For me the game has a lot of promise, if everything is implemented correctly and turned on for us all to test then it would probably be the game we have all be waiting for. In the state it is now for testing, it is pretty empty except for the occasional mob and occasional newbie that you can kill.

I tried my hand at fishing, I was pretty good at it and caught various types of fish from lobsters to salmon to bass. You can go buy a pot and cook them in a stove and then you have some food. When eating it it does help you gain stamina and health faster, but not as fast as other games. People looking for a easy handout on getting quick health and stamina back, need look elsewhere. Even when using the heal spell that you get, I noticed it healed for 12 hp, sometimes I would fail at healing myself as well. The games items are pricey, yet when selling items you find out in the wilderness expect low returns.

Also as far as I can tell the beta is just using medium graphics effects at this time, when I try to change textures from medium to large I don't notice any difference at all.

Maybe other testers can give their comments as well, this is all I have for now as the servers are down and have been for quite some days.

Q: Tell us about the primary stats.How can you improve them, is there a cap and how important are the differences in the races' starting stats? thx

Buffs? I remember Tasos saying that there would be no pre-combat buffs. Is this still true, with all the buffs that we see in the magic lists. Are all those buffs combat buffs and how long do they last?

Q: I've heard more than once that night and day are done 'well'. Is the difference actually worth mentioning with the shadowing and lighting, or is it like WoW where the landscape stays the same brightness while just the skybox changes? This could make this game that much more intense if sieges are timed at night.

Nice read.

I have a few questions:

- Spells: How deep have you gone with spells? I was wondering how viable it would be to go as a pure caster.

- Crowd control/support: I know the devs said they want to minimize CC abilities, but I was wondering if skills/spells like snare, root, stun, etc. are in the game.

- Racial abilities: Are they in at this point? Such as Mahirim running on all fours, special weapons, etc.

Thank you for your time.

A: Stats are turned off in the beta as of build 77 and aren't doing anything.

I'm not the guy wrote the leak, just chiming in =P

Q: Have the developers relayed any information on why certain aspects are turned off (such as sieges, naval warfare, etc) and have they given any insight as to if they are expecting them to be ready by February 25th?

Anonymous said...

Q: Following on what I wrote previously, do you think the game will be release ready come February 25th?

Are the dynamic mob spawns in? If you wipe out a goblin camp will they move to somewhere else?

They have said there are over 500 skills and spells in the game, does it look like this is true? What are some of the lesser known skills that haven't been mentioned yet? Do the skills compliment each other? Does having a high anatomy skill make your weapon damage do more like in UO?

Unknown said...

Q: What are the stats on a some basic items? Have seen much of a difference in stats on weapons ranging from low end to high end? Example: Goblin Axe (+1 Axe) vs. Legendary Saber of the Pwn (+100 Sword, +100 Strength, + Health, etc.)

Given that you're able to fight at any skill level, be it off the creation or 400 hours in, is it possible that skill gain is so slow to encourage fighting at any range and not just 'MACRO MACRO FARM MACRO DONE' character templates?

On the same note, I've heard complaints about the world having limited PvE content in terms of mobs to hunt. If the world were populated with 10,000 players online would this still be an issue? As fun as it is, I doubt you want to have fights every few steps you take while online.

hey, the negative leak said there were 3 directional swings, left, right, and overhead... if this is true, this is awesome! That's 2 more swings that what's supposed to be there. And do the directional swings make a difference?

Q: Have you had the chance to try spears and/or throwing weapons? if yes what do you think about them.

Q: Can you tell us more about the special attack skills that are in the game. How specific a weapon category are they associated with? Are there special attacks for ranged combat? Can you give any examples of special attack skills?

Q: Can mahirim run on all fours? (this is still unconfirmed) and is a deal maker or breaker for me.

Q: are the crafting mechanics working right now? ... what's the density of raw materials and how are they situated? i know there are player-run mine clusters, are they up and running and do they yield a lot of ore?

have you "found" smiting plans, and what exactly are the requirements for them. and/or are they better or equal to mob drops.

Q. Can you tell us about the ambience of the game? Are there special sounds like birds chirping or insects buzzing? When you swim underwater, is the floor covered with aquatic plants and rocks?

we have seen spell lists... what about skill lists?

Would like to see those photo's, I know ways to make it 100% trace proof.

Are there Thief/Rogue style utility skills such as Lock picking/Traps/Disguises

Bartlebe said...

@Shane

I hope not.

Q: What about skills not pertaining to spells or melee (such as traps etc.) Are there any of these types of skills in the game at moment? If so, explain a bit, thanks.

Anonymous said...

Q. It's all about the NPCs.

There have been a few things the devs have said about NPCs a few years ago that was never brought up in recent QnAs.

1. Mobs loot you.
2. Mobs that gain a lot of kills increase in power through their experience.
3. Mobs if left unchecked for too long establish their own cities.
4. Mob's migrate by changing their spawn location if they are killed too many times.
5. Mobs detect players through a combination of sound, sight and smell. This implies staying down wind, moving lightly and in the shadows should conceal you from mobs.

Could you confirm any of this?

Q. Can we purchase melee abilities that have special effects like AOE cleaves, quick strikes in the opposite direction you are facing, snares, armor breaks, disarm and other types of debuffs and special attacks?

It's bad enough melee combat sounds so one dimensional.

Geeze, so many redundant questions. Since I don't want any of the 5 questions to be wasted on something that's already been answered, I think I'll take the liberty of answering some of these myself (based on other ppl's info of course).

@SERIDUR:
Check a few posts back on this blog. Everything except the stat cap is posted and stats are currently not operational in the beta (multiple sources on that one, the latest being inquistors post, which i would link to if beta links wasn't down

MRANNON the noob states in her preview that the protect spell lasts a few minutes. I think we can expect the rest to behave similarly and with the constant wipes/grind requirements i doubt foxtrot has attained any of the higher tier ones

PYROHACK
check the spell lists. Its doubtful many beta testers will have more info than that. Also from all reports it seems Maharim four legged running is not in.

@DELOUSED
This one's pretty subjective, but Inquisitor answered it later on the beta leaks boards and estimated it'll probably be released but "not finished" (Again, if betaleaks weren't down i'd link to it) and even went so far as to say he got the impression the dev's "just wanted to be rid of it[the game]"

@DENNIS
I believe inquisitor said to no to the roaming spawns, but it might be nice to get that corroborated.

@ORION
There's an old quote that says those 3 didn't make the cut since they were redundant. But for more recent info just check the ten tonne hammer interview, tasos lists off "all the schools" in the game, and those three aren't on the list :(

@BOB Its been said that the two horizontal directional swings are random and pretty much just animations for when your clicking. Inquisitor (it really is a shame we can't post the rest of his Q and A) said in his follow up Q's thatit was still just a click fest even with the overhead swing

Unknown said...

@Patience Edge

Inquisitor pretty much implied none of that stuff was in (mentioned they don't have waypoints or other fundamentals that would be required for that) and explicitly said mob's don't loot you

Unknown said...

Ok, so time for my question! And its one i've been wondering about for a long time!

Q: Is it possible to wear clothing over armour ala UO. I noticed in the screenshots i've seen of paper dolls like this one http://www.darkfallonline.eu/darkfall-bilder/v/Darkfall+2008/darkfall_25.jpg.html
there are slots for shirts, robes, pants, etc. Can you confirm if its possible to wear them over armour, or even confirm if "clothing" exists?

Q1.1: Since it appears that even selecting your avatar's hair colour is not in I'm going to assume this is a no.... But are dye tubs in??

Unknown said...

please post the read more section for me! thanks!
